Orkut losing its popularity?
Back in 2004 when Orkut was officially launched by Google, people had a notion that this social networking site would rule the roost for at least a decade. There was hype, there was hoopla, and people all over the world were all agog to create an account and be a member there. But where’s the craze now? Is it subsiding gradually? I hope so. Alexa has listed the top 500 sites on the web and it was hardly surprising to see Google right at the top of the list. Yahoo, meanwhile is lagging behind Google, followed by Youtube and Facebook. But where’s Orkut on the list? Believe it or not, it’s curretly ranked 122nd in the world and with sites such as Twitter and Facebook, I’m afraid it’s traffic rank would go further back. It can’t entice netizens anymore like it did a couple of years back. Moreover, it’s looking down the barrel and it’s gradually losing its way! Forget Orkut for the time being, what about PayPerPost that’s luring innumerable bloggers with dollars? True, it might be currently ranked 7,305 in the world but I’m pretty sure it would come to the top sooner or later. Time will tell and it certainly will. Kudos, by the way, for Google for retaining the top spot for quite some time now!
